Obsolescent planned obsolescence

I love it when a manufacturer tries to set the warranty based on the timed dysfunction of a product, but fails miserably just before the finish line.

My 600VA Energizer battery backup power supply died completely this week.  I searched my inbox for the order confirmation from batteries.com and found out that the three year warranty expires in two weeks.

I also saw that I bought this backup for 19 dollars after shipping and even got a free 8 pack of AA batteries.

If I get a new backup that lasts another 3 years, that’s three dollars/year for an indispensable device that protects my most important assets and business.  That’s what I call utility-raping the suck merchants.
