Breaking national news: An eleven year old girl who was missing for five days was found this morning in a swamp pretty close to my Orlando apartment.
The solution was sooo obvious. The missing girl’s sister said she had “gone on an adventure.” Then the bike was found at the mouth of the woods on the end of a cul-de-sac.
This could have been me as recently as last year! I know what it’s like to be summoned by Florida’s untamed flora and fauna. You get fifty feet into the woods or marsh or swamp and start to worry you won’t be able to find your way back out before sunset. And it’s only 2pm.
Then there’s the relief of the exit: How am I only bleeding this much? Why don’t I have any ticks? When will I embrace my inner redneck and buy boots? How soon can we do this again?
I bet one month after this girl gets some food and hydration she’ll explore again.
