You think it’s safe
but why
because it’s round?
Because it’s yellow?
It’s not safe
and it’s not good for you
for anyone
Look it up
you’ll see
Most things you touch are toxic
Look them up
Look them all up

Still we sit
on the sunstroked grass
fine white china and clean white linen
The birds sing to us
or warn us
as we slice
ignoring the birds’ songs
or warnings
and sprinkling sugar to make it sweeter
It really does feel safe
and it may even taste good
but you should know
there’s a reason it’s so hard to cut
There’s a reason it’s so hard to eat
